Have you ever found yourself paralyzed because you started over-thinking? Not an uncommon condition, right?
I used to think analysis was good. I thought it was getting me somewhere - until I realized it wasn't!
Here's why. I am not the thinker!
Case in point: I was going through a rough patch a while back, trying to juggle too many things at once and not feeling like I could get really clear about anything. You can relate to this, right?
I was talking with a colleague of mine about it and she taught me a lesson that has dramatically changed the way I think and even more importantly, the way I act.
I made some comment about wanting to step back and get clear on what direction to take with something and she said, "Instead of stepping back, try keeping your foot on the gas."
Brilliant, right?
Moving forward from a standstill is significantly more difficult than moving forward when you're already in motion. If you play any type of sports at all this fact will resonate with you I am sure.
In fact, this is the whole genius behind designing the continuous lanes you get on when you're entering the highway. When the cars are flowing into traffic there are lot fewer accidents, right?
It is easy to get overwhelmed when you are running your own business or managing your personal life and sometimes it seems like the right thing to do to stop and assess the situation.
However, if you stop, you get stuck in analysis mode, lose your momentum, and take longer to accomplish your goal.
One of the easiest ways to make sure you stay in action is to have a morning goal. This should be something that you are committed to getting done within your first hour of waking and it should be tied to one of your bigger lifestyle or business goals.
If it is losing weight, it might mean running first thing. If it is making more money in your business, it might mean writing an article or posting on blogs for lead generation purposes. If you make this a MUST do first thing in the morning you are more likely to stay in motion.
You will likely find that once you complete one project, each successive one becomes easier and easier. Remember, an object in motion stays in motion...until it stops.
So, the next time you are feeling a little stuck, resist the urge to stop and over-analyze and instead keep your foot on the gas. Chances are your momentum will propel you in the direction you need to go.
