Do you have any real goals for your life? Or are you just going to wait and see what happens?
Many people feel within themselves a strong belief that they were meant to do great things, but they have no idea what they should be doing or how to get started.
They don’t know how to set a goal, how to get motivated, and how to accomplish what they want to do. This can lead to a life of frustration.
Learning how to set and achieve goals is one of the most important skills we can master. If you don’t learn how to set goals and accomplish them, you are more likely to end up being one of those people who just drifts through life, wondering how you got to where you are.
Most people who say they have goals are wrong. They don’t really have goals. They just have wants and desires. They strongly wish for certain things, but they don’t really have a plan for how to achieve what they want.
Your statement of goals needs to be more than just a wish list of all the things that it would be nice to have. You need to make a plan to there. You need to put some dates on your plan so that you can tell whether or not your plan is working.
If you say to yourself, “Someday I would like to have a lot of money”, that is not really a goal. That kind of statement is just wishful thinking. It doesn’t have force behind it. It doesn’t have a plan. It doesn’t have a timetable. There is no way to measure success. There is no personal accountability.
To make that statement into a goal, you would need to provide much clearer direction to yourself. You need to give yourself a timetable for accomplishing the steps towards your goal. You will need to take some action. Not just any action, but action in the right direction.
When you take the action of writing down your goals, you have a written record of you plans and desires. You can review your goals and decide what steps you need to take to get to where you want to be.
Many of the people who have made great accomplishments as adults, actually started to write about their goals from an early age. Is this just a coincidence, or is there something about writing down your goals that makes you much more likely to achieve them?
It’s worth noting that many people who don’t bother writing out their goals for themselves also don’t end up with great accomplishments to their name.
Writing down your goals also signals your brain that you take these goals seriously.
If you can’t commit yourself to something as simple as writing down your goals and reviewing them every day, how can you commit yourself to accomplishing the larger goals you have in your mind?
