Stress is a widespread and pervasive problem.
In the western world, over 20 million people suffer the pain and misery caused by severe stress, depression, anxiety and panic every year.
Many people's lives are ruined as a result. They feel overwhelmed, helpless, don't know where to turn, feel devastated and exhausted. Some people also have trouble sleeping and totally lose their self-esteem and confidence.
Many people assume their doctor is the best person to talk to about stress. Or maybe seek help from a psychologist or psychiatrist. Either way, you're often given a drug prescription to treat your problem.
Your doctor might say that the reason you're suffering is because you have a “chemical imbalance" in your brain. Most people will accept this diagnosis without question, because it comes from a trusted medical expert.
As a result, you're given long-term drug treatment for your chemical imbalance. You might even be advised to stay on this drug for the rest of your life!
The term “chemical imbalance" refers to levels of neurotransmitters (happy chemicals) in the brain.
These happy chemicals are said to regulate mood levels. Examples of these chemicals are serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.
When the neurotransmitter chemicals are high, we feel happy. When they are low, we feel unhappy. That's why “stressed out" people have less happy chemicals.
And that's why “stressed out" people feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or panicky. “Stressed out" people have low levels of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. That's why you feel lousy and can't think straight. You don't have enough “happy chemicals" in your body.
My friend, you don't have a drug deficiency. You don't need medicine to cure your chemical imbalance! You need to learn a practical, hands-on way to cope with the stress of life. You need to feel happy again, and have more energy. You need to relax deeply, and let go of this tension and anxiety.
The Medical Establishment treats stress, anxiety and depression with over-the-counter pills and drugs. This treatment is expensive and drugs often have serious side effects.
Of course, drugs don't do anything to reduce stress, or resolve your problem. They will not “cure" your condition.
The second you stop taking the drug, you're right back where you started. In the meantime, you're dealing with nasty side effects, such as constipation, low libido, acne, and dry mouth. Plus, there is an awful downer that you get when the medicine wears off.
What goes up must come down.
Coming down from a drug is not fun. You may find yourself crying, and even more depressed. What's next?
My friend, stress is like a weed. If you don't get rid of the root, it will keep coming back. Drugs only cover up symptoms.
Drugs are like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound. The problem never really goes away. You're sedated, but not cured. The physical and emotional wounds are still there, and the second the medicine wears off, you're back at square one.
You may take an aspirin to cope with the stress of your boss yelling at you, but you have done nothing to get the stress out of your system, bounce back from the experience and respond better next time.
Who wants to live like that? Not me, and I'll bet you don't either. Consider developing a practical coping strategy that will help you get through the stressful times, recover quickly and get back on your feet again.
By learning to relax, you will naturally increase the “happy chemicals" in your brain.
When your mind and body relax, you will physically experience “feel-good" endorphins-- and you'll feel like yourself again. Plus, a wonderful burst of energy comes when you feel calm, relaxed, and upbeat. This is when the stress starts to melt away physically and emotionally. All of a sudden, you can think clearly.
