Thanksgiving From the Heart

Thanksgiving is a holiday that is mainly celebrated in the United States and in Canada. Although not every country celebrates Thanksgiving, we can all benefit from remembering to be thankful. If the Thanksgiving holiday is not yet universal, the idea behind it should be celebrated by everyone.
I don’t know whether every country and culture celebrates in some way the idea of giving thanks for what we have received. Many cultures seem to have a special celebration in the fall after all the work of harvest is done, and people can finally have a chance to reap some of what they have worked so hard to achieve all year.
On one level, Thanksgiving celebrations are wonderful occasions to eat delightful food with our friends and loved ones. However, the thought behind Thanksgiving day is actually an occasion to remind us to live in gratitude for all we have received.
We can learn to live in a state of gratitude at all times. We just need to remind ourselves to give thanks for all the good in our lives. We can spread our gratitude by actually telling the people in our lives what it is that we specifically appreciate about them.
As we improve our conscious gratitude, we also improve all areas of our lives, including our relationships with other people, and our relationship to our spirit.
I used to be a person who was quite bitter at my lot in life, and I truly believed that I had very little to be grateful for. Instead of focusing on gratitude, I used to only focus on my resentments.
As I encountered the concept of being grateful, and as I started to practice gratitude constantly, I discovered that there is another way of being and thinking. There is another way of interacting with the world.
Gratitude truly does transform our lives. You don’t need to wait for a special day to express your thankfulness.
