You analyze something in so much detail that you get stuck. You keep going over and over the information, and it still doesn't make sense. For some reason, you can't get it out of your mind. Any action or creative thought is short-circuited as your brain goes around in an endless loop.
Why does this happen? Part of the problem is that you're stuck in “critic mode." There is a part of your brain that likes to analyze, judge and criticize. The problem: You're being overly critical. Your inner critic is silencing your creative, problem-solving side.
It's true! The creative part of your brain holds back and stays quiet, for fear of rejection, making mistakes, or looking foolish. It's amazing, but your creative side strives to protect itself. No way does it want to get hurt, rejected or disappointed.
When you're stuck in “critic mode," your brain can't make a shift from from input (examination) to output (action). Maybe you don't know what to do, for fear of messing up, getting rejected, or looking stupid.
Ok, time to relax! Instead of getting stressed out, just let things go. Stop trying to analyze to the point of absurdity. Just let your mind wander, and think freely... without judging or criticizing yourself.
When we try new things (and get out of our comfort zone) -- that is when we grow. It is wise to listen to your “gut instinct." Remind yourself that it's ok to make mistakes. That's how we learn, grow and improve.
If you ever feel stuck, start thinking “what if?" Just ask your self some questions, and see what you can come up with.
What if you weren't limited by time, money or talent... what would you do then? What could you do differently that you may not have tried before? What is a new way to approach the situation?
What is your desired outcome? In other words, how would you like things to turn out? Sometimes, it helps to think about the end result that we want. Keeping the outcome in mind will melt away our frustrations, fear of rejection, and shortcomings. It will also give us the courage to move forward, despite setbacks & challenges.
Write all of your ideas down. Brainstorm (without judgment) as many creative solutions and ideas that you can think of. When you're all done, take a break. Later, come back and evaluate your ideas.
Sometimes it takes an unbelievable challenge to push you beyond your limits and tap into your genius. Don't get stuck in analysis paralysis. Let your imagination roam freely, and be creative. Take the road to less stress. You'll be glad that you did!
