Would you like to learn some ways to remember better? If you are often forgetting important things you are probably wondering what, if anything you can do to improve your memory. Here are some ways to remember better.
For example, you have probably heard that when it comes to holding on to your brain power, you have to “use it or lose it.” That means that instead of giving your brain a rest from all learning, if you want your memory to be strong, you should find ways to challenge your brain power regularly. Commit yourself to being a lifelong learner. Take up new challenges. Explore new hobbies. Keep meeting new people.
Your brain will respond better if you spend your free time doing challenging puzzles and creating new artwork and writing. Your brain power will start to decline if you create a lifestyle where your free time centers around mindlessly watching television.
Researchers in Japan have been studying the activity levels in the human brain using very sophisticated medical scanning devices. They discovered that the best way to get a lot of the brain to light up with metabolic activity was to give a person a series of simple mathematical problems to solve very quickly.
For example, they found that doing mental exercises such as the following questions would help the brain “light up” on their medical scanners: 4 X 6 = ___ , and
2 + 7 = ______ . You can find lots of similar exercises in a child’s work book.
If you want to improve your memory, first you have to believe that you can do it. You have to commit yourself to getting your brain active and searching out the memory enhancement techniques that actually work for you. Practice memorizing verses and repeat them out loud. Read something in the paper and then rephrase what you have read in your own words, preferably out loud to someone else.
In the following article the author Greg Frost introduces some ways that can help you retain information better and have a better memory.
