In the United States, asbestos is a devastating cause of mesothelioma. This always happens through prolonged exposure to asbestos in an occupational environment.
Also, it has been discovered that not only workers in asbestos presence can develop this disease. People working near those who are using asbestos products can also develop this disease. Exposure from family members and their work clothes can also cause mesothelioma.
The major risk indicator for mesothelioma is asbestos contact or exposure. Prolonged exposure to asbestos through job, or during building demolition or remodeling always increases your chances.
Other known causes are exposure to zeolites, therapeutic thoratrast radiation, and chronic inflammation of the pleura. However, cases associated with them are few and rare. Importantly, asbestos is always the cause.
