5 Easy Tips To Improve Your Study Techniques

By B.R.Benton

If you are in high school or college then you probably realize by now that your grades are vitally important.

If you are in high school your grades can determine which university you can attend in the future and once you hit college it becomes even more important to maintain an A-B average. This article will give you five tips to help you study more efficiently and reach or maintain your target GPA.

1. Make Time To Study.

Although it may seem tempting, it is never a good idea to do a cram session the night before the test or exam. I am equally guilty of doing this, but let me tell you, it is NOT the way to go.

Start studying 3-5 days before your test or exam and you will see much better results. Furthermore, you will actually learn the material, perhaps even for a lifetime as opposed to memorizing it for a test.

2. Make A Study Plan.

With the busy schedules teenagers and young adults have today it is important to plan out your study sessions. This is especially important if you have multiple tests or exams in the same week or even on the same day.

It is never wise to let one class suffer in favor of another, but if you plan your studying sessions carefully you can ensure that you will get all the studying time you need.

The best way to do this is to literally make a schedule of your day. Write down everything you do in every hour. Any time that you aren't doing something is time that can be used for studying. Even if you only have an hour of time, don't be afraid to use it. Hour-long study sessions are actually the best kind!

3. Take Breaks.

It is important to take a breather every now and then. If you study too long you'll become frustrated and want to quit entirely.

The ideal study session should last approximately 50 minutes and be proceeded by a 10 minute break. Then once you are refreshed you can begin again. It is also a good idea to switch subjects after each break so you don't get bored.

4. Avoid Distractions.

It is important to figure out what distracts you. Some people prefer utter silence when they're working. Even the slightest of noise can distract them.

Other people like to listen to music but get distracted when they are spoken to or by their ever-present computer. Figure out what your ideal study environment is and try to study there as often as possible.

5. Figure Out Your Ideal Learning Style.

There are three common styles of learning: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Knowing what style best suites you can help you optimize your study time.

However, it should be noted that even though using your primary learning style can help you, there may be times when using a different learning style will be more efficient.

Following these five tips can greatly help you in your studying and ultimately your tests and exams. However the most important tip of all is that you must be motivated and willing to work.

In order to obtain the grades you desire you have to be willing to work for them. With hard work and proper studying techniques you WILL succeed.
